As the Fourth Largest of 493 Proud California American Legion Posts, YOUR Chula Vista Post 434 Family was recognized as Top Department of California Award recipients in the following categories for 2010/2011:

First Place Community Service Program among California Legion Posts (Commissioner's Award)

First Place Children and Youth Program among California Legion Posts (Commissioner's Award)

Runner-Up in Americanism Program among California Legion Posts (over 1000 members)

Honorable Mention for Chaplain William "Bill" Trayer for Services as a Post Chaplain (this was awarded to only 7 Chaplains out of 493 in California)

Veterans Day in the Park

American Legion Post 434 hosts this year's "Veterans Day in the Park" to be held at 11:00am on November 11th at Chula Vista Memorial Bowl located at 385 Park Way, Chula Vista, CA (click for directions). American Legion Post 434 will join with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2111 and Fleet Reserve Association Branch 61 to recognize our area veterans and pay tribute to the sacrifices made to secure the freedoms of our great nation. The guest speaker for the event will be Iraqi War Veteran and Author, Gunnery Sergeant Nick Popaditch, United States Marine Corps (Retired). For more information on this American hero and proud Chula Vistan, click here for his biography from "Once A Marine" or the "must see" montage posted on "SignOnSanDiego." All Chula Vista residents are encouraged to join us at this Community event recognizing our area veterans.

An area rich in history, rich in support of our military and veterans, and rich in community and mutual helpfulness. We are a strong membership with sound principles and hearts to match.

Living in a region with a strong military presence, we are reminded daily that we are proud of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines and our veterans who have sacrificed to ensure our freedom and instilled within us the greatest reassurance for the future of tomorrow.

From our fine dinners and dances, karaoke events, daily lunch menu, to our post club room, post trips, and many volunteer and community events, Post 434 is a great post filled with a strong, diverse membership that is large in heart, big in spirit, and knows how to have a great time!

Heroes to Hometowns Program {Test Post}

Heroes to Hometowns (H2H) is an American Legion initiative dedicated to help severely injured service members and their families connect with their hometowns or new communities. The mission of H2H, is to recognize the severely injured and embrace them as a part of our community, assist them in making a seamless transition into their new hometown, and provide them a solid support network they can access when needed. In the regional area, a San Diego based H2H group has been in place since early 2007 and has been featured in the American Legion National Magazine as a successful support resource for local San Diego area Wounded Warriors. To support their regional efforts, the post moved in October 2007 to assemble a Heroes Transition Team (HTT) in 2008 to be ready to assist as needed. In the coming months, more information will be provided and the HTT will report profress and look for ways to help support regional efforts.
